SUW Route Information

The Southern Upland Way is Scotland's longest walk stretching 212 miles (340Km) west to east from Portpatrick’s romantic seascapes over the Mull of Galloway to the dramatic North Sea cliffs at Cockburnspath. Tracking through some of Scotland's most beautiful and varied scenery, it offers an unforgettable holiday experience for serious walkers and casual visitors alike.

The Southern Upland Way has previously been deemed a long and arduous trek offering excessively long sections with few accommodation providers, constant forestry and only Mother Nature to offer any source of food, but we can assure you this is not the case.

Although the route was created to offer walkers a real wilderness experience and it still can, it can be easily broken down in to more manageable sections with achievable mileages. Comfortable accommodation providing excellent food and hospitality and services to support you along the Way.

Despite some guide books and organisation promoting the route as a 2 – 3 week trek, we can assure you that the average time to cross the route is 10 to 14 days with average mileages of approx 15 miles per day.

So we are here to dispel the myths and to help you all the way. We can also guarantee you that you will not walk in a queue of walkers, infact you will be lucky to see a local farmer as you walk amidst some of Scotland’s finest scenery but you will receive some fantastic hospitality and, most importantly, at mileages to suit your ability.

The SUW is becoming more and more popular with many walkers taking on the Full Route and just as many walking either the Western or Eastern sections at a time, in less than one week; then returning to complete the other half.

So hopefully this site will help you, but please do not hesitate to contact us should you wish to discuss your plans.
